RED Media @ MSU DENVER: í Viva Mariachi !

Why is mariachi music experiencing a resurgence?

Because the traditional Mexican music, which dates back to at least the 19th century, is exciting and vibrant, said Lorenzo Trujillo, Ed.D., J.D., director of Metropolitan State University of Denver's ensemble Mariachi Los Correcaminos.

"It tells the stories that are universal stories — it's about all of us," he said. "The love, betrayal, legendary people."

MSU Denver's mariachi program is sharing those stories and a passion for the art across Colorado. And the university recently hosted the 4th annual Viva Southwest Mariachi Festival Workshop & Showcase. Sponsored by the Latino Cultural Arts Center, the festival featured more than 200 students alongside professional musicians and performers.
