LCAC Partners with UCD and DAM to Open "Malintzin: Unraveled and Rewoven"

The Conquest of Mexico, Tapestry, Leslie Tillet

Estamos Encantados for our Community Arts Program Leader Lilian Lara's first curatorial project opening on March 31, 2022, at Next Stage Gallery, located in the Denver's Performing Arts Complex, 1025 13th Street, Denver, CO 80202, from 5:00-7:00pm. This exhibition teases out the different threads of what is known about Malintzin/Malinche by taking you on a journey through a jungle created out of textiles. Lilian is teaming up with designer Norberto Mojardin to recontextualize imagery associated with survival, resilience, and reverence of this undeniable paragon. Students from the UCD College of Arts and Media created an app that includes an interactive digitized viewing of The Conquest of Mexico Tapestry, offering a modern interpretation of Cortez's 36-month long campaign between 1519 and 1521. This 100-foot long depiction shows Malintzin's vital role during this historical epoch. Malintzin: Unraveled and Rewoven will show through May 31, 2022 and is free to the public.
