Denver Premiere of Maya Hooked-rugs Sales Event

An accompanying sales event for the exhibition Stitching Stories: Contemporary Maya Textiles will follow on Saturday, July 20, from 11AM-4PM, at Hijos del Sol, 2715 W. 8th Avenue, Denver. Multicolores is an artist association representing 70+ Maya women artists, organized in nine groups in seven communities across the Guatemalan Highlands. Through embroidery and hooked rugs, these artists explore themes of identity, historical connection, and personal storytelling. Their artists have perfected the American folk art technique of rug hooking. Stitching Stories: Contemporary Maya Textiles Pop-up Exhibition at LCAC

The pop-up exhibition featured story rugs and embroidered dolls by Maya women from Guatemala. The pieces combine personal storytelling and expression with community identity, while interpreting Guatemala traje in a contemporary context. Exhibition sponsored by US BANK For centuries, traje indígena—traditional Maya clothing featuring distinctive hand-woven, hand-embroidered motifs—has served as a creative expression of identity and community. Frida Directed by Xavier Rodriguez August 9th and 16th 7pm-9PM A meeting of two worlds – Opera Steamboat Springs presents the beloved story of Frida Kahlo. Frida is a 1991 opera based on the life of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo by Robert Xavier Rodríguez. This opera is based on the book Frida: A Biography of Frida Kahlo by Hayden Herrara.
